Trip Overview

Gokyo Renjo Pass Trek is an adventurous trek in the Everest Region which is graded difficult for trekkers. The Gokyo trek is less crowded and offers breathtaking views of snow-covered mountains. This trek takes past trekkers to the beautiful village of Gokyo Valley. It delights trekkers with the mesmerizing view of turquoise Gokyo Lakes. Trek through the forested trails on ascending and descending trails during this trek.

Pass through the beautiful Sherpa villages of Dole, Machermo, Namche, and Gokyo. Hike to Gokyo Ri at an elevation of 5,357 m and witness the awesome views of Gokyo Valley and surrounding peaks.  Cross the highest Renjo La Pass at an elevation of 5,360 m and cherish the phenomenal views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, etc. This trek is best to do in Spring and Autumn.

Best Season

To experience the best views, Spring (Mar-May) and Autumn (Sep-Nov) are the best seasons for the Gokyo Renjo Pass trek as the weather is favorable and temperatures are stable in these months. The unstable weather and temperature, slippery trails, flight cancelations, and only limited services are experienced during the monsoon and winter seasons. Plan wisely to trek in winter and monsoon seasons.


Altitude Sickness and Preventions

The  Gokyo Renjo Pass Trek has a maximum elevation gain of 5,644.5 m. It is common to get altitude sickness above 2500 m and hence there is a chance of getting altitude sickness during the Gokyo Renjo Pass Trek. Acclimatization rest is the best way to prevent altitude sickness. We advise taking an acclimatization rest as scheduled in the itinerary during the trek.

Trek Difficulty and Fitness Level

Gokyo Renjo Pass is a difficult-graded trek. It is beneficial to have a previous trekking experience. This trek is physically demanding and requires trekkers to walk long hours daily on rough trails. Trekkers can also find difficulty in the limited availability of services and comfort during the trek. It is difficult for trekkers and we suggest beginner trekkers attempt with full planning and preparations only.

Fitness level is an important factor in trekking and demands trekkers to be in top-notch health conditions. Trekkers must be both physically and mentally fit for the Gokyo Renjo Pass trek. We advise trekkers to participate in physical exercises (cardiovascular, high-intensity, etc.), and mental exercises (meditation, yoga, etc.) before starting the trek.

Day by Day Itinerary

Welcome to Nepal and our representative greets you at the International Airport. After fulfilling all the formalities, get transferred by a private vehicle to the hotel in Kathmandu. Afterward, a brief meet and discussion with a trek guide, and team. Stay overnight.


Wake up early to board a Lukla flight which takes about 45 minutes. Relish the scenic flight and land at the world’s one extreme airport, Tenzing-Hillary Airport. From Lukla, start trekking to Phakding along with a guide and porters. Cross a suspension bridge and walk past the beautiful settlements of Chhuplung, and Ghat to reach Phakding. Stay overnight in a teahouse.

Note: (The flight schedule is from Ramechhap to Lukla in the peak months of April, May, October, and November.)


Pass through the attractive villages of Monjo and Jorsale and enter Sagarmatha National Park. Show entry permits and continue to trek following a steep trail and admiring various vegetation in the surroundings. If lucky witness some wild animals during the trek. Traverse a popular Hillary suspension bridge and one final ascend on a steep trail to arrive at Namche Bazaar. Stay overnight in a teahouse.


Acclimatization is very necessary to prevent altitude sickness. Hence to get the body adjusted to the surrounding environment take an acclimatization rest as scheduled in the itinerary. Spend the day with a short hike to the popular Everest View Hotel. In the morning start a hike which takes about 1-2 hours depending on the trekker’s speed. Everest View Hotel is at an elevation of 3,880 m which is termed as one of the highest situated hotels in the world. Get a first glimpse of Mt. Everest if the weather is clear including other surrounding peaks. After spending some time, return to Namche. The day is free to explore on your own. Treat yourself to German bakeries, little cafes and restaurants, and drinks at Irish Pubs, and enjoy special coffees in the vicinity. Stay overnight in a teahouse.


Pass through the beautiful settlements of Sansa and pass Mon La Pass through a forested trail. Relish the view of yaks pasturing and passing through cascading waterfalls. Traverse the lovely villages of Tonga, and Gayle, and steep ascend from Phunki Tenga to arrive at Dole for an overnight stay.


Trek on an ascending trail passing through a juniper forested trail adoring the fabulous views of Kantega, Thamserku, and Cho Oyu. Keep on walking on an ascending trail admiring the picturesque views and arrive at Machermo for an overnight stay.


After breakfast, start trekking admiring the lovely views of Cholatse and Kantega Gorge. Trek down the river bank and ascend towards the Ngozumpa Glacier following rocky and moraine trails. Walk on the trail of staircases and continue to trek and after some hours arrive at the beautiful village of Gokyo. Stay overnight in a teahouse.


The acclimatization day at Gokyo begins with a short hike to Gokyo Ri at an elevation of 5,357 m. Trek slowly as the elevation rises but it doesn’t require special gears to climb. Reach the summit and witness the phenomenal views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, etc. Cherish the Ngozumpa Glacier, beautiful Gokyo Valley, and mesmerizing Gokyo Lakes. Descend to Gokyo for an overnight stay


Trek to Lungden adoring the beautiful sceneries of towering peaks in the background. Walk on a comfortable trail and slowly proceed to a trail that is rocky and steep. After trekking for some hours reach the Renjo La Pass, the highest point of the trek at an elevation of 5,360 m. Relish the stunning views of Rolwaling, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, etc. Slowly descend to Lungden for an overnight stay.


Walk on a comfortable descending trail crossing a bridge over the Bhotekoshi River. Keep walking on ascending and descending trails following the forested trails. Trek downhill to reach Thame. Visit a beautiful Thame Monastery if you wish to. Stay overnight in a teahouse.


Walk slowly on a trail descending to the Bhotekoshi Valley. Traverse a bridge and follow the forested trail adoring the lovely Sherpa settlements. One final walk on the descending trail to reach Namche Bazaar. Relax at Namche and treat yourself to delicious food items and drinks at Namche. Stay overnight in a teahouse.


The trekking day is long but relishing the beautiful surrounding views trek on the descending and ascending trails toward Lukla. Pass the villages like Jorsale, Ghat, and Phakding to reach Lukla for an overnight stay


After completing a memorable Everest Base Camp trek fly back to Kathmandu which takes about 45 minutes. Get transferred to the hotel and the day is free to explore on your own. Join us for a farewell dinner in the evening. Stay overnight.
